Siena Honoring Military Opening Week

The Siena men’s and women’s basketball programs will honor Capital Region veterans as part of their Opening Week festivities which tip-off Friday night at Alumni Recreation Center. For the women’s opener Friday night versus Sacred Heart, and the men’s opener November 16 against Navy, anyone showing a military ID at the box office will receive free admission.

The military appreciation nights tip-off an ambitious promotions calendar for the men’s and women’s program. To view all of this season’s promotions, use the link at the top of the page.

The women’s opener is being held on Veteran’s Day, and the program will be paying special tribute to women in the military. Siena College’s ROTC will be providing an all-female color guard for the national anthem, and outreach campaigns are on-going to attract female veterans of the armed service to the game.

The men’s opener is against Navy, making it a natural fit for the program’s first Military Appreciation Night. Those who show a military ID at the Times Union Center Box Office will receive a complimentary ticket in the floor endzone. Several promotions and recognition ceremonies are in place to recognize veterans of the armed forces through a partnership between the athletic department and the National VFW.

The Official Siena Athletics store, the Dog House, will be selling limited edition Siena camouflage T-Shirts at each game.

In addition to the Military Appreciation Nights, the athletic department is offering free admission to the men’s opener against Navy with any paid ticket to either of the first two women’s games (Nov. 11 vs. Sacred Heart or Nov. 15 vs. Binghamton).

This is the third straight season Siena has celebrated Opening Week. Last year, 8,047 fans turned out for Siena’s 80-76 loss to Vermont.
