Are you known for anything special?
As our homemade menu clearly states, the burgers are made by 1 guy! All of our food is cooked to order so there is very little prep work which means fresh hot food. If you remember the chicken parm and marinara back in the day, you’ll want come back!
Because we have soft serve ice cream all year long we have gotten creative and have desserts such as Ice Cream Nachos which have been a huge success!
What is your favorite thing about your business?
My favorite thing about our business is that we are “nostalgic”. The Times Union food critic sort of labeled us that with their write up and with our atmosphere it definitely suits us. We have real frying pans to decorate our exterior walls and serve our daily specials written on a frying pan. Nostalgic and creative.
What are your biggest challenges?
Our biggest challenge is reminding people that we are open all year round. Even when its raining or snowing, the lake view is always beautiful.
During the summer we have the outdoor patio available with a view of the lake and all year we have window seating with a view of the lake. And all year we have delicious food and entertainment options to offer.
What do you want the community to know about you?
We are more than just great food! We are truly a family-fun destination offering free games at the tables like: chess, checkers, backgammon, hang man, battleship…just to name a few. We offer video games, darts, a pool table…it’s the perfect place to take the whole family out for a night on the lake.
Anything else?
There’s more! We host an Interactive Art & Display Night the last Thursday of every month, Laughter the Best Medicine Comedy Night the last Friday of every month and a book club on the first Monday of every month. We are a social group of people that love doing what we do best, serving people!
We are a military family and Kirsten’s son is serving in Afghanistan, Lance Corporal, Brant Day USMC. and can’t wait to have him home again! We want to offer a special “Thank You” to all who serve this country and their families.

Summertime is FUN Time at DiDonna’s South Shore Restaurant
Describe your business and how you got started.
Established in 2008, DiDonna’s is an American Italian relaxed dining restaurant. My family was the first to have the restaurant at this location and I grew up in the kitchen as well as the daily grind of the restaurant, I guess I missed that and wanted see the name on the sign once again.
My girlfriend, Kirsten Day, jumped on board, we made some adjustments and well, here we are!

Angela McFarland - The Publisher, has lived in Ballston Spa for 12 years with husband Mark, a self-employed contractor, their 10-year old son Eric, and is an active, proud just-like-a-mom to Mark Jr., Tanner, Ian and Hunter McFarland ages 21, 18, 16 and 11 years old respectively. They are a busy family with Capital District roots, extended family in the area and are members of the Ballston Spa Presbyterian Church.
