Marjorie Shaw of Malta has been named the 2012 Senior Citizen of the Year by the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club. “Our club presents this award annually to a senior in our community who has dedicated a lifetime to the Rotary motto of ‘service above self,’” said Jim Doern, president of Saratoga Rotary.
A proposed land exchange deal between the town of Malta and GlobalFoundries is under negotiation with a possible vote by the Malta Town Board to take place April 2. The deal would be a mutually beneficial arrangement for both parties involved. The town would use their portion of the land in question to expand current recreational trails that parallels the existing Zim Smith Trail to the Northway. The land in question is where National Grid plans to construct their $10 million pipeline. The line would fuel GlobalFoundries as it prepares to increase activity in its $4.6 billion fab plant later…

Local Couple Receives FBI Accolades

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children/New York/Capital Region (NCMEC/NY/CR) is proud to announce that the local chapter’s founders, Sam and Linda Palazzole, have been officially honored with the 2011 Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA) Friday, March 16 at FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. “We feel incredibly honored,” said Sam Palazzole. “This award means so much to us, but what it means even more is that NCMEC/NY/CR has a presence in the Capital Region. This presence will help us achieve our goal of preventing and eliminating the exploitation and abduction of children in the Capital Region.”

Malta Gets Loud on Noise Issues

Noise regulation has been an ongoing issue in the town of Malta, as residents and businesses embrace the presence of jackhammers, backhoes and the music of major construction underway right in their backyards. But what began two years ago with residents of the Luther Forest neighborhood voicing complaints against relentless construction activity has since provoked changes to town law that some say goes too far.

MALTA, NY – The Malta League of Arts (MLA), a growing non-profit, is preparing for big things to happen in 2012 and is seeking motivated art enthusiasts to join their ranks. A recent recipient of a $1,000 grant from the Saratoga Gaming and Raceway Foundation, the MLA is looking to expand its annual “Arts Attitude” exhibit and increase membership.

The grant is designated to assist the MLA promote and expand its growing arts expo, Arts Attitude, in 2012. The exhibit showcases the work and talent of local and regional artists.
Malta, New York--- The Malta Ridge Vol. Fire Co. Inc. (MRVFC) was awarded a $1,000 stipend from the national nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) to increase its home fire sprinkler education locally by conducting a live fire and sprinkler side-by-side educational demonstration.
Ballston Spa, NY--- Thanks to a donation ofnearly $4,000 in building materials from Curtis Lumber, the Saratoga CountyFair was able to construct new roofs over the bleacher area adjacent to thehorse riding arena on the fairgrounds. Hudson Valley Community College was given $400,000 from the Second Chance Scholarship Foundation to create an endowed fund that will expand the Second Chance Scholarship program on campus. This donation is one of the single largest scholarship gifts in the college’s history.
